Dr. Rebecca Elliott

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Rebecca Elliott (she/her) views therapy as a collaborative journey to help clients achieve personal growth, well-being, and connection. She takes a holistic and relational approach to therapy and endeavors to create a non-judgmental and respectful space where clients can safely explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She displays empathy and is highly attuned to her clients’ moment-to-moment emotional shifts. Recognizing the healing potential of laughter, Dr. Elliott skillfully weaves humor into sessions, fostering connection and lightening the therapeutic journey. Flexibility in therapeutic style is vital to meet each client’s needs; therefore, Dr. Elliott is able to incorporate evidence-based principles of assessment and treatment, such as those from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), when clinically indicated. Additionally, she uses mindfulness-based interventions to promote increased self-awareness, help clients disengage from thoughts, and connect with presence, intention, and well-being.

Dr. Elliott’s diverse training background has equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities of the human experience, allowing her to customize therapeutic interventions for each client. She is committed to ethical and culturally sensitive practice. As such, she approaches clients with the knowledge that their cultural experiences have direct and unique impacts. Although clients may initially present to therapy feeling isolated and disempowered, Dr. Elliott believes individuals are resilient, powerful, and deserving of belonging and connection. She is guided by the belief in each client’s capacity to grow and live a fulfilling life and will work with clients to identify their unique strengths and build upon them.

Dr. Elliott obtained her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University New England. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New York. Dr. Elliott has honed her therapeutic skills through a range of professional experiences, including providing treatment to adults for trauma, substance use, mood disorders, personality disorders, and persistent and severe mental illness in a variety of clinical settings (e.g., Veterans Affairs, inpatient hospital settings, private practice, college counseling, and community mental health). She also has training and experience providing mental health services for refugees and survivors of torture. Much of Dr. Elliott’s clinical work has been with forensic populations, including conducting forensic evaluations (e.g., psychological, psychosexual, risk, parenting capacity, fitness for duty, competency, etc.) with adults and minors. These evaluations were often court-ordered (criminal and family court as well as professional boards). Dr. Elliott also has experience providing group and individual psychotherapy for individuals who have committed a sexual offense in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Regarding research experience, she has published work in the areas of behavioral health, including tobacco use and cardiovascular disease.
