Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Simon Miller is a licensed psychologist who is deeply committed to creating a supportive and non-judgmental space whereby clients can be their authentic selves and feel empowered to achieve their therapeutic goals. He facilitates this process through warmth and empathy, and he also injects some humor or levity when needed. Dr. Miller believes that these ingredients help to create a comfortable atmosphere that deepens the connection between him and each client.
Dr. Miller’s clinical treatment is client-centered and evidence-based. He prioritizes understanding his clients’ individual identities and perspectives. While providing his clients with unconditional support and validation, they have felt affirmed in their identities and more motivated to create positive change in their lives. In his experience, he has also found that support and validation are essential to fostering hope, especially in the seemingly bleakest circumstances. Even when an individual is sitting alone in their darkest moments, such as grappling with the death of a loved one, Dr. Miller is able to help them process their loss and make meaning of their experience in a way that allows them to still lead a fulfilling life.
With a tailor-made approach developed in collaboration with his clients, Dr. Miller helps them gain insight into themselves by deeply exploring their presenting problems, thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and lived experiences. He helps them identify opportunities for positive change and utilize strategies necessary to achieve their goals. For example, during Dr. Miller’s experience at a college counseling center, he facilitated a weekly process group to help students gain insight into their relationship and communication patterns, which allowed them to make improvements and enhance their connections with others. At this counseling center, Dr. Miller also helped his clients who were struggling with stress and anxiety to develop practical strategies, such as mindfulness and problem-solving, to gain a new and improved perspective of their difficulties.
Dr. Miller’s primary background is in Counseling Psychology, and he has training in therapeutic orientations, such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems therapy, and trauma-focused therapy. He is a highly experienced therapist specializing in working with couples as well as adults, particularly those navigating issues related to identity, diversity, and spirituality. He provides expert support for anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, or major life transitions (e.g., career changes, marriage, or retirement, etc). With a deep understanding of the complexities of race, religion, and faith in mental health, Dr. Miller creates a supportive space for clients from diverse and underserved communities. His personalized, culturally-sensitive approach helps individuals and couples strengthen communication, deepen self-understanding, and navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and resilience. Dr. Miller also places a special emphasis on helping clients understand their unique selves as they exist in the systemic, cultural, emotional, and historical context around them. He believes it is his mission to improve access to mental health care by destigmatizing psychotherapy.
Dr. Miller obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees in Counseling Psychology from Seton Hall University. He has received training in numerous settings, including community mental health and medical settings, both of which have given him the experience to provide holistic client care.
